Silver Sliver Galaxy

This is one of my earliest images that I had taken when I was brand new to the hobby, when all I had was the telescope and a Canon dslr, no accessories or anything fancy. I’m only sharing it now because my processing skills have come so far from when I first started, and I have been able to fix many of the various issues this image originally had. The image may be full of all sorts of camera noise, but it’s too cool not to share and it’s nostalgic for me.

Catalogued as NGC 891, also known as Caldwell 23, is an edge-on unbarred spiral galaxy about 30 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda! The galaxy is a member of many small groups of galaxies (dwarf galaxies) that can be seen scattered throughout the image, as this region is littered with them. The galaxy is visible in small to moderate size telescopes as a faint elongated smear of light with a dust lane visible in larger apertures, if you’re ever so inclined to attempt to see it visually.

Thank you for taking a moment to view one of my oldest works that I took back in December of 2022.
