Messier 106

This galaxy currently has no “popular name” hence it’s designation as simply just M106. Also catalogued as NGC 4258 this galaxy is located in the constellation Canes Venatici, first discovered by Pierre Mechain in 1781, and is over an astonishing 22mil light years away. This galaxy contains an active nucleus classified as a Type 2 Seyfert, and the presence of a central supermassive black hole. It is theorized that most if not all galaxies have supermassive or greater black holes at their core. This galaxy also has very large hydrogen jet arms that extend from it, despite not being present in my photo, however this can be seen with Hubble’s capture as well as from other highly experienced astrophotographers. Other smaller and much further away galaxies can be seen in my photo, such as the fuzzy glow right next to M106, catalogued as NGC 4248. This photo was completed in May of 2023.
